Frequently Asked Questions

How much does stump grinding cost?

Pricing depends on stump diameter at ground level, species (hard/soft), access, number of stumps, surface roots, and site conditions. We’re happy to quote from photos with a tape measure across the stump.

How deep do you grind?

Standard is 150–300 mm below ground level to remove the stump and main surface roots. Deeper grinding for re-planting, turf, or paving is available on request.

What happens to the mulch/chips

Grinding creates wood chips + soil mix. We can leave it on site for garden mulch/ backfilling, or remove it for an additional fee.

Can you grind in tight or tricky access?

Yes - narrow-access machines can fit through most garden gates (e.g, 700–900 mm). Let us know gate width, steps, or obstacles so we bring the right gear.

Can you work in dense vegetation or on slopes?

Generally yes. We may do light clearing around the stump for safe access. Steep or unstable ground may need extra precautions or a site visit.

Will the tree regrow after grinding?

Most species do not regrow once the stump is ground. Some (e.g., certain eucalypts) can send up root suckers - usually short-lived. Herbicide treatment can be arranged on request (and used responsibly).

Is stump grinding safe for underground services?

Safety first. Please tell us about water, power, gas, NBN, irrigation etc. We can work with Before You Dig Australia (BYDA/1100) plans and adjust depth/position as needed.

Will grinding damage my paths, lawn, or garden beds?

We use guards and work carefully. There’s localized disturbance near the stump (chips and soil), which we’ll rake and tidy. Let us know if any garden features need extra protection.

How long does it take?

Small to medium stumps: 30–90 minutes each. Large or multiple stumps: allow a few hours. We’ll give a time window when scheduling.

Is it noisy or dusty?

Stump grinders are loud (like a mower x2). We use debris guards and work tidy, but expect some noise and chips during operation.

Can I plant or build where the stump was?

Yes - just remove excess chips and backfill with topsoil/compaction. For concrete footings, decks or pavers, we recommend removing chips (they slowly decompose) and compacting a suitable base.

Do I need council permission?

For stump grinding (not tree removal) permission is rarely required. Heritage/streetscape or verge trees may have rules - ask if unsure.

Are you insured and qualified?

Yes - we’re fully insured for stump grinding and operate to safety best practices.

Do you offer residential and commercial services?

Absolutely—homes, strata, schools, real estate, builders, landscapers, and more.

Do you travel across Perth and surrounds?

Yes - Perth Metro and nearby WA areas: Peel (Mandurah-Pinjarra), South West (Harvey-Bunbury), Avon Valley (Toodyay-Northam–York), Turquoise Coast (Guilderton-Lancelin), Chittering Valley and more.

What if it’s raining?

Light rain is fine; heavy rain/soft ground may require rescheduling for safety and to protect your lawn.

How do I book and pay?

Message or call for a free, no-obligation quote. We accept bank transfer or cash.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes—send a photo showing the full stump, the diameter with a tape measure, and a quick access shot (gate/steps).

Do you remove the whole root system?

Grinding targets the stump and main surface roots. Deep roots naturally decay underground over time; full excavation is rarely needed.
